Sure, we all caught glimpses of runway shows and most of us
receive the J.Crew “styleguide” but really, what are real life people supposed
to be wearing to work this fall? Here,
my picks on trends to try – and skip.
Trend to Skip:
Printed Pants
I know J.Crew is pushing the printed pants trend at us hard and fast, but I’m just not convinced. Don’t get me wrong; these perfectly styled
ladies look adorable. However, if I
showed up to my office in a blood orange sweater and pantalones with a purple jacquard pattern – I’m not so sure everyone would get it. High hells and silk pajama pants may sound
edgy, but in real life, it might look more like a dressed up walk of shame.
Trend to Wear: Tuxedo Jackets
| Jacket: Helmut Lang |
Most likely, you won’t be getting away with a
tuxedo jacket over a bondage dress like the 14-year-old androgynous model above. But, a tuxedo jacket with some silk pants,
yes! Tuxedo jacket with a pencil skirt – do it!
Trend to Skip: Don’t Go Baroque
Unless you’re Keira Knightley and starring in a
period piece, don’t go Baroque. Trust me. next
year, you’ll pull your gilded gold armor from your closet and wonder why the hell
you spent your hard earned cashola gilded office garb.
| Booties: Dolce & Gabbana
Trend to Try: Leathah
I’m not saying you should wear your leather motorcycle jacket to the office, but if you are, and you think you’d get away with it, can you let me know if you’re hiring? But, really, leather details can be haute! Like this tee with leather sleeves for example.
Leather Sleeve Tee: Sachin & Babi, Neiman Marcus
